Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland invites applications for the tenure-track position of Assistant or Associate Professor of Education. Requirements: earned doctorate in curriculum and instruction or teacher education; knowledge of the culture and intellectual environment of a liberal arts college; experience in instructional supervision; experience teaching at the secondary level; evidence of relevant program of research. Responsibilities include overseeing the secondary program, teaching the equivalent of three four-credit courses per semester (including educational psychology and principles of education one semester each year), and working with Professional Development Schools. The department has a small social welfare concentration, and is developing an interdisciplinary concentration in criminology. We cooperate with the College's gender studies, Black studies, and international studies programs.

The Department of English at Washington College seeks to hire a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor with expertise and experience teaching first-year writing. The successful candidate will teach a 3/3 load, including two sections of "Literature and Composition" each semester; the remaining courses (first-year seminars or upper-level courses) will be assigned in accordance with the candidate's additional area of specialization. Ph.D. in English, Rhetoric and Composition, or a related field required. A tenure-track search for this position will take place next year, and the visiting professor will be welcome to apply.

Assist with special projects and events and perform other duties as assigned.

Must be comfortable learning new technology. Design experience a plus. Also desired are strong writing and proofreading skills and good people skills. The superior candidate should be detail-oriented and possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, and problem solving skills. Must have proven ability to initiate and manage multiple tasks under competing deadlines and shifting priorities. Responsibilities: This position is responsible for coordinating speakers' schedules while on campus. Coordinating lectures including ordering posters to advertise events, planning dinner prior to lectures, creating and sending invitations to dinner, obtaining lodging, transportation and audio-visual aids when needed and requisite honorarium for speaker as required. Also responsible for seating reservations, room set-up, photographs, and poster signings and planning and escorting speakers to the International Studies Council Coffee Hour.
Organizing student trips including the student registration process, travel arrangements (including Visas), lodging, preparing travel advances and reimbursements and document duplication.
Managing and adding information as necessary to the Goldstein Webpage. Managing, editing, and writing for the International Studies Newsletter. Perform other secretarial duties as required as related to this program.

Responsibilities: The Assistant Director of the Washington Fund will work closely with the Director and Assistant Director of the Washington Fund to help plan, track, promote and supervise all aspects of the College's annual giving program. The primary focus of this position will be the planning and execution of the fall and spring phonathons and direct mail solicitations. This individual will also work closely with selected Class leaders, Reunion Class Chairs and other volunteers to solicit contributions for the Washington Fund. This individual will also be responsible for the Faculty/Staff and WC-ALL solicitations for the Washington Fund.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required, computer and database skills required, previous development and/or sales experience and event planning preferred, demonstrated administrative and supervisory skills, excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills, ability to direct and supervise students, ability to interact well with volunteers of all ages, ability to interact well with other members of the College community and must be able to work phonathons on a weeknight and weekend schedule, some Saturday and Sunday events and be willing to travel distances to meet with alumni, parents and friends of the College.

Responsibilities: The Director of the Washington Fund will design and execute a highly successful annual giving campaign. (Goal for the current fiscal year is $1,175,000 and annual increases of at least 6% are required). The director will develop and create a marketing and education program to promote The Washington Fund to the college constituency. He/she will lead a wide-ranging program that includes peer solicitation, a paid student phonathon program, direct and electronic mail initiatives as well as advancement staff visits with major gift prospects.
The position reports to the Associate Vice President of Development and will manage two full time assistant directors. While working collaboratively with members of the Advancement team as well as administrators, Board members, and volunteers, the Director will play a pivotal role in the institution's upcoming comprehensive capital campaign.
The Director will have the opportunity to manage a small portfolio of major gift prospects for the purposes of cultivation and solicitation, focusing on leaders in The Washington Fund.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree; at least five years' successful experience in annual giving and or major gift fundraising is required. Candidates must have a proven ability to engage, motivate, and secure increased gifts from prospects and volunteers. A commitment to small colleges and the values of liberal arts education is critical.
